A TMC delegation, led by party vice- president and former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha and Derek O’Brien, met Election Commission officials in Kolkata on Friday and requested them to address EVM issue and violence by BJP workers during polling in Nandigram.

We have requested the EC to address EVM issue and violence by BJP workers. It is EC’s responsibility to ensure fair polls. Despite their tactics, Mamata Banerjee will win in Nandigram and TMC will secure victory in the first two phases, ANI quoted TMC vice-president Yashwant Sinha as saying.

The TMC delegation also requested the EC to immediately act upon complaints filed by the party during the first two phases.

On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee camped at a polling booth in Nandigram’s Boyal for several hours, alleging that voters were being stopped from exercising their franchise.

BJP and TMC supporters gathered outside in large numbers and raised slogans as Banerjee waited in a wheelchair. She could move out only after a large contingent of central forces and police personnel reached the site.

A report submitted by observers to the Election Commission regarding the incident, however, said voting was not disrupted.
