Fuming over Maharashtra losing the multi-crore Vedanta-Foxconn project to Gujarat, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Thursday criticised Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership and said that the Central government’s promise to Shinde to give a “bigger” project to Maharashtra than this is like “convincing a child”.

“Since the project has already gone out of Maharashtra, there is no possibility of getting it back. There is no point in talking about it, but for the upcoming projects, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde must lead to creating a favourable environment for the investors,” Pawar said in a Press Conference held in Pune, in a report by ANI.

Pawar further said, “I also heard that the discussion with the Prime Minister was also held where he promised that he will be helping out with some other bigger project to Maharashtra, this is like trying to convince a child”.

Notably, Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Limited and Taiwan’s Foxconn on Tuesday signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Gujarat government for setting up a semiconductor and display FAB manufacturing unit in the state with an investment of over Rs 1.54 lakh crore.

Reacting to the developments , Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shiv Sena, Rajya Sabha MP tweeted, This is betrayal to the people of Maharashtra.
But then they went against own party to come to power now going against people of the state to serve their Delhi bosses is a natural outcome.

In another tweet Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, Shame that industrialists are now being asked to defend the centre’s arm twisting to get them to invest in an election going state over the one already finalised&established for setting up the project as well as provide a face saver to the illegitimate government.
