Unable To Cope With Recurring Injuries, Andy Murray Announces Retirement

Frustrated by recurring injuries in his career, former World number one men’s tennis player and winner of three Grand Slam singles titles, Andy Murray,  has announced that he will retire this year.  The 31 – year-old also indicated during an emotional press conference in Australia that he hopes to play in Wimbledon 2019.

“I can play with limitations. But having the limitations and the pain is not allowing me to enjoy competing or training,” the emotional Scot said in Melbourne, breaking down in tears.

“Wimbledon is where I would like to stop playing, but I am not certain I am able to do that.

“Pretty much done everything that I could to try and get my hip feeling better and it hasn’t helped loads,” he added.

“I think there is a chance the Australian Open is my last tournament.”

Murray had won Wimbledon twice in 2013 and 2016 and US Open in 2012.
