The Supreme Court hearing the CBI plea against West Bengal Police Chief Rajeev Kumar has asked him to join the probe in the Saradha scam. The court has ruled out any arrest.

Hence according to media reports , Rajeev Kumar will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Shillong, Meghalaya as a neutral place. Next day of hearing is February 20.

Meanwhile reacting to the SC ruling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said : “I haven’t seen it (judgement) yet. Will talk only after reading the entire judgement. It is a moral victory.”

The CBI team had sought to question Commissioner of Kolkata Police Rajeev Kumar, who was investigating the scam. But the face- off ensured when the CBI team was detained by the Kolkata police sparking off a battle between the BJP and the TMC over the CBI.

Two applications were filed by the CBI before the Supreme Court one seeking a direction to the State of West Bengal to cooperate in the probe pursuant to the Supreme Courts orders passed in the Saradha Chit fund case, and another seeking contempt action against the state authorities.

The CBI had claimed that Kumar was involved in the destruction of electronic evidence in the Saradha case. Yesterday, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had directed the CBI to place any proof of this claim within 24 hours.
