Sunrisers Hyderabad finally tasted win after disappointing losses as they beat Punjab Kings by 8 wickets in Hyderabad in their Tata IPL 2023 encounter. The second match of the day’s double header.
Earlier SRH Skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the Punjab Kings to bat first . His bowlers responded to the decision well as they restricted the Punjab Kings batting-line up to a modest total . Punjab got off to a poor start losing opener Prabhsimran Singh ( 0) . Matthew Short ( 1) , Jitesh Sharma , Sam Curran ( 22) , Sikandar Raza ( 5), Shahrukh Khan . The batting flopped . The unbeaten 99 by Skipper Shikhar Dhawan who missed his well- deserved century by one run was the only saving grace for Punjab. Dhawan 99 ( 66 balls , 12 fours 5 sixes ) waged a lone battle to guide his team to a 143 / 9 in their 20 overs. The batting failure of Punjab barring Shikhar cost them dearly .
SRH bowlers kept the Punjab batsmen in check : Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/ 33 ( 4 overs) , Marco Jansen 2/ 16 ( 3 overs) , T Natarajan 0/ 40 ( 4 overs) was expensive. Washington Sundar 0/6 ( 1 over) , Mayank Markande was outstanding 4/ 15 ( 4 overs) , Umran Malik 2/ 32 ( 4 overs)
SRH in reply did not need any risks as it was modest target . Opener Harry Brook was bowled by Arshdeep Singh for 13. Mayank Agarwal was out for 21 . But the star of the SRH batting was Rahul Tripathi . Tripathi was in-fact belligerent and played a fine match- winning unbeaten innings of 74 ( 48 balls, 10 fours , 3 sixes) . Tripathi along with SRH Skipper Aiden Markram not out 37 ( 21 balls , 6 fours ) ensured no further loss of wicket and the team cruised to a comfortable 8 wicket win . SRH reaching 145- 2 in 17. 1 overs. A win that will do their confidence a world of good ahead hopefully.
