#TATAIPL2022: Match 9 : Jos Buttler’s Power Ton, Yuzvendra Chahal’s Wily Spin Help Rajasthan Royals Beat Mumbai Indians By 23 Runs

In match 9 of the Tata IPL 2022, Rajasthan Royals caused a big upset as they beat the fancied Mumbai Indians by 23 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on a hot summer day .

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Royals got off slowly to explode. Jos Buttler nearly batted all the way scoring brilliant hundred off 68 balls . It was second ton at the IPL . He hit 11 fours and five sixes . In one over he smashed Vasil Thampi for 26 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal ( 1) and Devdutt Padikkal ( 7) failed again, Skipper Sanju Samson was in fine form hitting 30 off 21 balls. Shimron Hetmyer came out with all guns blazing and scored 35 off mere 14 balls with three fours and same number of sixes. The Royals threatened to score above 200 plus total but lost wickets towards the end . Riyan Parag ( 5), Ravichandran Ashwin ( 1) . Royals finishing at 193/ 8 in their 20 overs.

For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick with 3/ 17 ( 4 overs) , Basil Thampi had a nightmarish one 0/ 26 ( 1 over) , Daniel Sams 0/ 32 ( 4 overs) , Murugan Ashwin 0/ 32 ( 3 overs) , Tymal Mills 3/ 35 ( 4 overs) , Kieron Pollard 1/ 46 ( 4 overs)

In reply the Mumbai Indians were rocked early with skipper Rohit Sharma out for 10. Ishan Kishan once again was in fine form scoring a 43 ball 54 with five fours and 1 six. Anmolpreet Singh ( 5 ) . The surprise was  however Tilak Varma who hit a fine aggressive 61 off 33 balls with three fours and five sixes. He fell to experienced Ravichandran Ashwin who gave him a animated send- off after he had hit Ashwin for a six in the previous delivery. Kieron Pollard ( 22) Tim David ( 1) , Daniel Sams fell for  ( 0 ) meant Mumbai fell 23 runs short at 170/ 8 in their 20 overs. It was their second loss. The first loss was against the Delhi Capitals.

For the Royals, Trent Boult 1/ 29 ( 4 overs) , Prasidh Krishna 1/ 37 ( 4 overs) , Navdeep Saini 2/ 36 ( 3 overs), Ravichandran Ashwin 1/ 30 ( 4 overs), Yuzvendra Chahal was impressive 2/ 26 ( 4 overs) unlucky to miss a hat-trick, Riyan Parag 0/ 11 ( 1 overs) . Sanju Samson made smart field placements and rotated his bowlers well to earn a well deserved second win and two valuable points.
