#TATAIPL2022 : Match 51: Tim David’s Cameo, Daniel Sams Last Over Heroics Help Mumbai Indians Beat Gujarat Titans By 5 Runs

Tim David’s crucial cameo while batting towards and end and fine last over bowling by Daniel Sams helped Mumbai Indians upset the points table toppers Gujarat Titans by 5 runs in thrilling match at Brabourne stadium in the 51st match of the Tata IPL 2022.

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and bowled first. Mumbai Indians were off to a flier. Skipper Rohit Sharma showed glimpse o of his class with a fine 28 ball 43 ( five fours, two sixes, his fellow opener Ishan Kishan to came to the party with a 29 ball 45 ( five fours, 1 six). The duo gave the Mumbai Indians the best opening stand so far 74 in 7. 3 overs. After the duo fell the batting slumped . Suryakumar Yadav (13). Kieron Pollard in poor form was bowled by a beauty from Rashid Khan (4).Tilak Varma was run-out for ( 21). Mumbai were struggling to post a fighting total.

In came Tim David and with is blazing cameo 21 ball unbeaten 44 ( 2 fours , four sixes) Mumbai got the impetus and the aggression it wanted . David did fabulous job of finisher and helped Mumbai reach 177/ 6 in their 20 overs. David’s cameo proved to be difference at the end of the match later on . Titans had the game in control until David stepped in and proved to be the game changer.

Titans bowling figures were: Rashid Khan 2/ 24 ( 4 overs), Lockie Ferguson 1/ 34 ( 4 overs) , Pradeep Sangwan 1/ 23 ( 3 overs) Mohammed Shami 0/ 42 ( 4 overs) , Alzarri Joseph 1/ 41 ( 4 overs)

Chasing 178 , TItans were off in a flash with Wriddhiman Saha in fine form leading the charge at the start . Saha was brilliant in his 55 ( 40 balls, six fours, two sixes), Shubman Gill the other opener began slowly but accelerated later to hit a fine 36 ball 52 ( 6 fours and two sixes) . Saha- Gill put on 106 for the first wicket in 12. 1 overs. Titans were romping home in style. But dramatically the match saw twist after the exit of Gill and Saha.

Skipper Hardik Pandya was run-out for ( 24) , Sai Sudharsan out hit- wicket ( 14) , Rahul Tewatia run-out ( 3) saw Titans choke in the chase. The match which was theirs was slipping out .

David Miller not out 19 and Rashid Khan not out 1 could not get the team over the line .  Titans needed 9 off the last over by Daniel Sams.

Sams held his nerve and bowled a brilliant final over. which read : The last over read : 1,0,W,1,0,0 .. Titans finishing at 172/ 5 in their 20 overs.

It was the second back- to back loss for  Gujarat finished while MI registering just their second victory from 10 games in IPL 2022.
