#TATAIPL2022 : Match 23 : Punjab Kings Powered By Shikhar Dhawan, Odean Smith Hand Mumbai Indians Their Fifth Loss By 12 Runs

Mumbai Indians search for elusive win at Tata IPL 2022 continues . In their latest match they lost to Punjab Kings by 12 runs at the MCA Pune.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field . His nightmare came early as Punjab Kings openers Skipper Mayank Agarwal and seasoned Shikhar Dhawan began with positive mind set and aggression . The duo for the first wicket put on 97 in just 9. 3 overs. Raising hopes of 200 plus total . Mayank Agarwal scored a 32 ball 52 with 6 fours and 2 sixes . Dhawan was too in his elements striking a superb 50 ball 70 with five fours and three sixes . Big names – Jonny Bairstow ( 12) and Liam Livingstone ( 2 ) fell early . Towards the end Jitesh Sharma unbeaten 15 ball 30 ( 2 fours and 2 sixes) and 6 ball 15 not out by Shahrukh Khan saw Punjab reach 198/ 5 in their 20 overs. Given the start they got 200 plus total was on the cards but it did not . Credit to Mumbai Indians bowlers for pulling it back .

Mumbai bowling figures were : Basil Thampi 2/47 (4 overs), Jaydev Unadkat 1/ 44 ( 4 overs), Jasprit Bumrah 1/ 28 * 4 overs) was brilliant with his trademark yorkers in the death over spells, Murugan Ashwin 1/ 34 ( 4 overs), Tymal Mills 0/ 37 ( 4 overs)

Chasing 199, Mumbai began well. Skipper Rohit Sharma showed the intent with 16 ball 28. But once again fell when he looked good for big one. Ishan Kishan fell for 3 . Dewald Brevis gave some hope with a fine attacking  25 ball 49 ( 4 fours and five sixes) he smashed four sixes in one Rahul Chahar over that went for 29 runs. Tilak Varma was run-out for 36 ( 20 balls, 3 fours , 2 sixes) , Suryakumar Yadav struck a fine 43 . Kieron Pollard out of form was run-out for 10 thus dashing hopes of a win . Mumbai fell agonisingly close at 186/9 in their 20 overs. Losing the match by 12 runs. For the Punjab Kings it was their third win in the Tata IPL 2022

Punjab bowlers held on their nerves . Vaibhav Arora 1/ 43 ( 4 overs), Kagiso Rabada 2/ 29 ( 4 overs) , Arshdeep Singh 0/ 29 ( 4 overs) , Odean Smith 4/ 30 (  4 overs)  finally got rid  of the last over nightmare against Gujarat Titans , Liam Livingstone 0/11 ( 1 over) , Rahul Chahar 0/44 ( 4 overs)  did well considering his first over went for 29 runs.
