Supreme Court Asks For Status Report From Uttar Pradesh Government Post-Killing Atiq Ahmad, Brother ; Independent Probe Hearing After Three Weeks

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to submit a status report on steps taken after the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj.

A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Datta also sought a report from the UP government on the police encounter of Ahmad’s son Asad in Jhansi, reported PTI .

Asad was killed in an encounter by a special task force (ST) team of the UP Police on April 13.

Further , Supreme Court to hear after three weeks a petition seeking to constitute an independent expert committee under the chairmanship of a former SC judge to inquire into the killing of mafia brothers Atiq and Ashraf amid police presence.

Supreme Court further asked the Uttar Pradesh government why the vehicle carrying mafia brothers Atiq and Ashraf was not taken to the hospital directly. Uttar Pradesh govt tells the court that they have appointed a commission to look into the matter.
