Review : Engrossing From Start To Finish – Turn A Blind Eye By Jeffrey Archer

Jeffrey Archer is back once again with yet another engrossing and gripping book -Turn A Blind Eye. It is the extraordinary third novel featuring William Warwick .

The author narrates an interesting anecdote from the pages of history on why he opted to make the title of his book Turn an blind eye . During the battle of Copenhagen in 1801, the flagship commander signalled to Lord Nelson that he should stop attacking the Danish feet and retreat. Nelson held a telescope to his blind eye and said: I do not see the signal’. Having disobeyed that order, Nelson continued to attack and won the battle . This incident has come to be known as turning a blind eye.

Archer has the the uncanny ability to weave magic with his characters in his book. Here William Warwick is the cynosure for all around , a Detective Inspector, is tasked with a dangerous new line of work, to go undercover and expose crime of another kind: corruption at the heart of the Metropolitan Police Force. His team is focused on following Detective Jerry Summers, a young officer whose lifestyle appears to exceed his income.

But as a personal relationship develops with a member of William’s team, it threatens to compromise the whole investigation. Meanwhile, a notorious drug baron goes on trial, with the prosecution case led by William’s father and sister.

And William’s wife Beth, now a mother to twins, renews an old acquaintance who appears to have turned over a new leaf, or has she? As the undercover officers start to draw the threads together, William realizes that the corruption may go deeper still, and more of his colleagues than he first thought might be willing to turn a blind eye.

Like Archer’s forte in his novel he once again relies heavily on his stable of old favorites, including the Warwicks, Sir Julian, Grace and William, Miles Faulkner and Booth Watson. This is a intense crime novel, which holds holds the audience with captivating courtroom scenes and multiple twists and turns. And these along does not keep the readers interested in the book . There are other attributes as well. There are several fascinating love affairs, a large dose of the byzantine world of auction galleries their aura and the prices they attract from potential buyers . There are also apt lessons in the world of fine art produced by the Masters.

Archer continues to raise the bar with his books and his latest offering is yet another masterclass. The book is primarily for ardent Jeffery Archer fans . Those who have read his past books would would love to follow up. As he has his own signature way of story telling and present the characters in his inimitable way to woo the audience.
