Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that parents should not pressure children due to social status, and asked students to focus on their work to come out of any such burden of expectations.

Replying to students’ questions during the sixth edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha”, an annual interaction he has with students about issues like stress and studies related to exams, he said students should try to maintain focus on their work. There is a very thin line between criticism and obstruction. Parents must criticise in a constructive, positive way.

Modi also spoke strongly against the use of unfair practices in exams. PM Modi had a message for the parents too when he remarked, I urge the parents not to pressurise their children. But at the same time, students should also not underestimate their capabilities. If a family’s expectations from its children are due to societal pressure then it’s a problem…We are in politics where huge pressure is created for victory. You must match expectations with ability. You must always stay focused.
