Notwithstanding the opposition from Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who had apparently written a letter to interim parry president Sonia Gandhi not to appoint Navjot Singh Sidhu as PCC chief, Sonia Gandhi has went ahead and appointed the cricketer turned politician as PCC chief.

Gandhi also appointed four working presidents to assist Sidhu in the run-up to the next assembly elections. The new working presidents are Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra.

“Congress president has appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu as the president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect,” according to a party statement.

Reacting Sidhu’s elevation, Navjot Singh Sidhu will be an asset to Congress & forthcoming (assembly) elections along with Captain Amarinder Singh, who is the CM of Punjab & is an eminent leader of the party. Both will lead the party to victory”, said Former Union Minister & senior Congress leader Ashwani Kumar to ANI
