No institution in a constitutional democracy, including the collegium, is perfect and the solution is to work out within the existing system, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said on Friday.

Speaking at the Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) , he said judges are faithful soldiers who implement the Constitution.

The working of the Constitution depends on how the district judiciary is working. When we celebrate the Constitution we must be conscious of the history prior to the adoption of the Constitution, CJI DY Chandrachud was quoted as saying at the Constitution Day celebration in Delhi

CJI further said, Legal profession must shed away its colonial underpinnings. In India where summers include extreme heatwaves because of climate change we must reconsider strict dresscode for lawyers especially in summers. Strictness of attire shouldn’t lead to moral policing of women lawyers

Since 2015, November 26 is observed as Constitution Day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. Earlier, the day was observed as Law Day.
