#New Vice-President : NDA Candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar Wins By Emphatic Margin, Beats Margaret Alva By 346 Votes

With number firmly on his side and result just a formality , National Democratic Alliance candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday won the vice presidential election by bagging more than 500 votes, while opposition candidate Margaret Alva polled less than 200 votes, sources said.

“NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar won by 346 votes as he bagged 528 of the total 725 votes that were cast. While 15 were termed invalid, Opposition candidate Margret Alva received 182 votes in the election,” Lok Sabha general secretary Utpal K Singh said.

As many as 55 MPs did not vote in the vice presidential election held from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

The Trinamool Congress, which has a total of 36 MPs, including 23 in Lok Sabha, had abstained from the election. However, two of its MPs had cast their ballots.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Jagdeep Dhankhar after his win at his Delhi residence . Jagdeep Dhankhar has his task cut out as he now gets to handle the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha .
