Senior Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for not taking questions from the house after his making statement on the Nagaland firing issue .

Speaking to ANI , outside parliament the Thiruvananthapuram MP said , We can’t afford to let it be perceived by people as something that allows security forces to act with impunity. HM and Defence Min should’ve addressed House and listened to what House has to say. Instead, you gave a very short statement and walked away without taking questions.

Tharoor further took a dig at the government’s so called successful peace talks by saying , In a state where the Govt claims to be engaged in very successful peace talks, look at the kind of condition they have reduced the state to today. In our Congress party manifesto, we had said that AFSPA has to be reviewed.

Tharoor made these remarks after Home Minister Amit Shah in his statement in both the house of Parliament expressed regret over the incident in Nagaland in which civilians were killed by security personnel.

Amit Shah informed Parliament Monday that “a team of 21 para-commandos of Indian Army laid an ambush” for insurgents in Mon district on December 4 evening but “it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity”.

He said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted and directed to complete the investigation within one month. The situation, he said, was “reviewed in detail to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest” and all agencies are being told to “ensure that no such unfortunate incident recurs in future while undertaking operations against insurgents”.
