Ahead of the trust vote that was ordered by Supreme Court in the Maharashtra assembly to prove his majority and with numbers not on his side, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has resigned as Chief Minister after 2.5 years.

I had come (to power) in an unexpected manner and I am going out in a similar fashion. I am not going away forever, I will be here, and I will once again sit in Shiv Sena Bhawan. I will gather all my people. I am resigning as the CM & as an MLC , Uddhav Thackeray was quoted by ANI as saying.

In a democracy, heads are counted to show numbers. I am not interested in that. I don’t want to play these games. Tomorrow, they will say that they have brought down Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray’s son,” Uddhav said.

Uddhav had a dig the rebels when he remarked, Let the rebels who grew politically because of Shiv Sena and Balasaheb Thackeray get joy and satisfaction of pulling down his son from the post of chief minister.

According to reports the Governor has accepted his resignation.

Addressing the state after Supreme Court order floor test in Maharashtra assembly, Uddhav Thackeray said, “I am very satisfied with the cabinet meeting today… Those who ran auto rickshaw and handcart we made them MP’s MLA’s. Those who I give everything have done this. I want to thank the Governor but some list pending with you from two and half years. All those who have rebelled, I want to ask them who are you upset with? Me, Congress, or NCP. I as Shiv Sainik thought of you as one of us.”
