ISRO Chief Welcomes Private Players In Space Sector, Says Will Generate Employment

After the Union Cabinet in a major decision approved participation of the private sector in the entire range of space activities, including planetary exploration missions. ISRO Chief K Sivan said, ISRO’s activities are not going to reduce and it will continue to carry our space-based activities including advanced research and development, inter-planetary and human space flight missions.

The ISRO chief said: “The government has approved the establishment of an autonomous nodal agency – Indian National Space, Promotion & Authorisation Centre – for taking independent decisions with respect to permitting and regulating the activities of private companies in space sector.

“It will act as a national nodal agency for hand-holding and promoting private sector in space endeavours and for this ISRO will share its technical expertise as well as facilities

“Space sector, where India is among handful of countries with advanced space technology, can play significant role in boosting industrial base of India. The government has decided to implement reformed measures to leverage ISRO’s achievement by opening space sector for pvt enterprises.

“The department of Space will promote sector space activities to enable it to provide end to end space services, including building & launching of rockets and satellites as well as providing space-based services on commercial basis.

“If space sector is opened (for pvt enterprises), potential of entire country can be utilised to scale up benefits from space technology. It’ll not only result in accelerated growth of sector but also enable Indian industry to be important player in global space economy.

“With this, there is an opportunity for large scale employment in the technology sector and India becoming a global technology powerhouse.”
