Farmers Protests Becomes Global : Rihanna, Greta Thunberg Tweet, MEA Issues Strong Warning

With the farmers protests now attracting global attention and foreign celebrities have tweeted their reactions on it . The MEA in statement has warned against the “temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments” and said the protests were by “a very small section of farmers” in parts of India.

The MEA statement comes after celebrities like Rihanna, Greta Thunberg tweeting their support the famers . Meanwhile former adult film star Mia Khalifa too showed her support and dropped a tweet, reacting to the ongoing protest.

She tweeted, “Paid actors,’ huh? Quite the casting director, I hope they’re not overlooked during awards season. I stand with the farmers. #FarmersProtest.”

Climate and environmental activist Greta Thunberg has come out in support of the ongoing farmers’ protest at Delhi’s borders against the Centre’s new agri laws. “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India,” she tweeted.

“We would like to emphasise that these protests must be seen in the context of India’s democratic ethos and polity, and the efforts of the Government and the concerned farmer groups to resolve the impasse,” the foreign ministry said in the statement , which included the hashtags #IndiaTogether and #IndiaAgainstPropaganda.

Rihanna had tweeted

“Before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken. The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible.”

Reacting to the global concern, BJP IT cell Chief Amit Malviya tweeted , this sudden concert of global celebrity voices against India’s government begs the question: who is wielding the baton?
