In a huge embarrassment for the BJP just days ahead of the Delhi assembly elections , the Election Commission in strong action ordered the removal Anurag Thakur, Minister of state for Finance and Corporate affairs and BJP MP Parvesh Verma from the list of star campaigners for the party in the Delhi assembly elections with immediate effect until further orders.

The order comes after the duo made provocative statements during their respective poll rallies in the capital . Thakur made his Goli maaro remark , while Verma , claimed that those involved in a sit-in protest against the controversial citizenship law at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh “will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters”.

Moreover, this is not the first time Anurag Thakur has been pulled up. He holds the dubious distinction of being the only president of the BCCI who was sacked by the Supreme Court .

On 22 May 2016, Thakur became the president of BCCI, and in January 2017, he was removed from the post by the Supreme Court, Supreme Court also initiated perjury & Contempt of Court proceedings against him that later dropped when he tendered unconditional apology.

Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his tweets slammed Thakur for his remarks and also the hit out at other BJP leaders for their outrageous comments

Chidambaram questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president on the remarks
