Birbhum Violence : West Bengal Assembly Witnesses Unruly Scenes; TMC, BJP MLA’s Get Physical, 5 Suspended

The West Bengal assembly plunged into pandemonium as ruling Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs exchanged blows after saffron party legislators demanded a statement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over “worsening” law and order situation in the state.

“MLAs are not safe even inside the assembly… At least 8-10 of our legislators were beaten up, including Chief Whip Manoj Tigga, by some TMC MLAs, as we demanded that the CM make a statement in the House on the law and order issue,” Adhikari said.

Trinamool MLA Asit Majumdar, who suffered a nose injury in the fight and was rushed to the hospital, alleged that Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari punched him. Amid the din, five BJP MLAs — Suvendu Adhikari, LOP; Manoj Tigga, Chief Whip; Narahari Mahato;

Dipak Burman and Shankar Ghosh — were suspended.

Opposition demanded discussion over law & order on the last day at least, govt declined. They brought Kolkata police personnel in civil dress to clash with 8-10 of our MLAs,  Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was quoted as saying by ANI.

Meanwhile,  as per report by PTI, CBI sleuths probing the Birbhum carnage on Sunday interrogated arrested local Trinamool Congress leader Anarul Hossain and other accused persons, besides recording the statement of those who were injured in the violence. Experts of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi,  collected samples from the place of occurrence in Bogtui village, which is almost deserted following the gruesome incident on the night of March 21.
