West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee will on Friday file her nomination for the by-polls to the Bhabanipur seat. Challenging Mamata will be BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal . In 2015, she contested the Kolkata Municipal Council elections from ward number 58 (Entally) as a BJP candidate but lost to Trinamool Congress’s Swapan Sammadar.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the by-election in Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency in West Bengal will be held on September 30. The EC also informed that bypolls will also be held in Samserganj and Jangipur of West Bengal and Pipli constituency of Odisha on the same date.

The counting of votes will be taken up on October 3.

The Bhabanipur assembly seat was vacated by the West Bengal Agriculture Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay in May, making way for West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to contest from Bhabanipur seat.

It is my obligation to see that my leader can contest because I have fought the election, taking Mamata’s picture on my poster. When she has been defeated, it is my obligation to give up the seat to her so that she can contest on her own seat – Bhabanipur, said Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay to ANI

Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the TMC workers’ convention in Chetla on Wednesday, confirmed that she would file her nomination for the Bhabanipur assembly by-election on September 10.

BJP President Dilip Ghosh claimed in report by CNN-IBN : “Nandigram also they did lot of things but lost. We will also fight in every way.”
