#Battle For Uttar Pradesh : Third Phase For 59 Seats Sees A Voter Turn Out Over 63% ; Akhilesh Exudes Confidence

56 per cent of the 1.75-strong electorate have exercised its franchise for 59 seats in the third phase of the Uttar Pradseh assembly polls.

According to data released by the Election Commission and reported by PTI , Uttar Pradesh recorded an average voter turnout of more than 63% in the third phase polls of the seven-phase state assembly election across 59 constituencies spread over 16 districts.

As many as 1,018 candidates were in the fray for elections held in Amethi and Rae Bareli, pocket boroughs of Nehru-Gandhi family, CSM Nagar, Sultanpur, Kaushambi, Allahabad, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar and Naxal-hit areas of Chandauli, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra.

The average voter turnout in the first phase (February 10) was 62.43% and in the second round (February 14) of the 2022 UP polls, it was 64.44%.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the average poll percentage in these 16 districts was 62.21%.

Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, while speaking to reporters earlier , expressed confidence of wresting the seats that went to polls today in central UP, also referred to as the Yadav bastion. In 2017, the BJP had made massive inroads in the region.
