Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing the media at the AICC headquarters took on the Modi government on host of issues. Other leaders  who were present  include AICC General Secretary in- charge communication Jairam Ramesh ,Ajay Maken and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot .

“We’re witnessing the death of democracy. What India has built brick by brick, starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed in front of your eyes.

“Anybody who stands against this idea of onset of dictatorship is viciously attacked, jailed, arrested and beaten up.

“Idea is, people’s issues — whether price rise, unemployment, violence in society — must not be raised. That’s sole agenda of government and it is being run to protect the interest of four to five people and this dictatorship is being run in the interest of around three big business houses by two people,” Rahul Gandhi said.

On the ED questioning him on the National Herald case, Rahul Gandhi said, “Question all you want. There is absolutely nothing there, everybody knows it. My job is to resist the idea of the RSS and I am going to do it. The more I do it, the more I will be attacked, the harder I will be attacked. I am happy, attack me.”

When Rahul Gandhi is told the BJP has won elections so that is proof that it has people’s support. He replies, “Haan, Hitler bhi chunaav jeet ke aaya tha”

“Why do they attack the Gandhi family? It is because we stand for a vision, of unity, communal harmony. Yeh ek parivaar nahi hai, yeh ek vichaardhaara hai,” Rahul says.

“My family sacrificed their lives. It’s our responsibility because we fight for this ideology. It hurts us when Hindus-Muslims are pitted against each other, when Dalits are killed, when a woman is thrashed. So, we fight. This isn’t just one family, this is an ideology.

“I get great joy and happiness when my opponents attack me. It makes me understand the battlefield better. I understand one thing clearly, the more I tell the truth, the more I will be attacked by them. It will not deter me. They fear that is why they threaten. They lie.”
