In yet another blow to the Congress party, senior Congress leader and seasoned lawyer Kapil Sibal has apparently quit the party. In a stunning day developments, Kapil Sibal filed nomination for Rajya Sabha elections, with the support of SP, in presence of party chief Akhilesh Yadav and party MP Ram Gopal Yadav.

He reportedly said , “I’ve filed nomination as Independent candidate. I have always wanted to be an independent voice in the country. I had tendered my resignation from the Congress party on 16th May. Thus setting the political buzz

“It is important to be an independent voice. While staying in Opposition we want to create an alliance so that we can oppose the Modi govt.”

Sibal has been very vocal among the G-23 leaders in the Congress , who had called for a complete overhaul of Congress’s leadership and organization in a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi.

Sibal has in the past lashed out at Rahul Gandhi saying , “Rahul Gandhi went to Punjab and made the announcement that Charanjit Singh Channi will be the Chief Minister. In what capacity did he do that? He is not the president of the party, but he takes all the decisions. He is already the de facto president. So why are they asking him that he should take back the reins of power?” Sibal asked.

He further added, “Some people have expressed their views that there can be no Congress without A, B or C. Obviously, they believe that ‘Sab ki Congress’ cannot survive without ‘Ghar ki Congress’. That’s the challenge.”

I’ll not say anything about Congress. I’ve resigned, so it’s not appropriate for me to say anything about Congress. It’s not easy to leave a relationship of 30-31 years: Kapil Sibal Told ANI,  after filling nomination of Rajya Sabha with the support of the Samajwadi Party
