The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has served an eviction notice to slum-dwellers living in the Motera area. They have been given 7 days notice to vacate the area. US President Donald J Trump is scheduled to visit Ahmedabad on 24th February during his 2-day state visit to India.

Indian Express reports that the families consisting of around 200 slum-dwellers who are registered construction workers claimed they have been asked to move out of a plot they have been inhabiting for two decades due to the upcoming ‘Namaste Trump’ event. However, AMC officials said the notices had no connection with the event.

The move comes just days after the AMC began building a wall allegedly to cover the Saraniyavas or Dev Saran slum on a route that the US President would probably take while visiting the city.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress Media cell Chief, had earlier slammed the government for building walls to cover the slums ahead of Trump’s visit in a tweet
