Ahead Of Crucial CWC Meet, Congress Denies Reports Of Sonia Gandhi Resigning

Chief Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has said that media reports of Sonia Gandhi resigning from the post of Congress interim president are false.

Congress Working Committee meeting is scheduled to be held on August 24 , an internal dispute had emerged regarding “leadership” issues in the party.

Reportedly 23 Congress leaders have written to party interim president Sonia Gandhi raising a ‘5-Point Agenda’ to revive the party, emphasising the need for active leadership in the party and raising questions about the party’s condition and direction, as well as demanding the election of the Congress Working Committee.

The party appears to be deeply divided on the leadership issue with a section demanding a “full-time” chief and another backing Gandhi’s at the helm, amid indications that interim president Sonia Gandhi might offer to quit. The re is pressure pressure on Rahul Gandhi to return too. He had quit after 2019 General election rout.

Thus setting the stage for a crucial CWC meet that will decides that future course of the party struggling to retain its base and looking clueless .
