West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “there is no UPA” remark after a meeting in Mumbai with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, an ally of Congress in Maharashtra, evoked a strong response from the party, currently being led by interim president Sonia Gandhi.

At an event in Mumbai, the TMC chief said if all the regional parties come together then defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be very easy. Mamata’s comment did not go down well with several Congress leaders.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha termed the meeting between Mamata Banerjee and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar as a “pre-meditated conspiracy” to weaken the grand old party and alleged the TMC chief had become “BJP’s oxygen supplier.”

Congress LoP in RS, Mallikarjun Kharge added, “We’ve tried to include them (TMC) in various socio-political issues where Congress made its name. Opposition should not get divided and fight amongst themselves, we’ve to fight against BJP together.”

Our fight is against the ruling party (BJP). Those who want to join us, should come with us& those who don’t want to join us are free to do so…can any political alliance formed against BJP be without participation of Congress?, Digvijaya Singh, told ANI on Mamata Banerjee’s UPA remark.

Fight against BJP can be fought only under Congress’ leadership as communal forces are sitting at Centre with mindset of selling off the nation, ending constitutional system & are working towards it, reacted Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole, on Mamata Banerjee’s ‘UPA remark’ in Mumbai.
