The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has termed the Election Commission’s order barring the rival factions of the party from using the party name and election symbol in the Andheri East assembly bypoll as “injustice.”

The poll body should have taken a decision in a holistic manner rather than passing an interim decision for the bypoll, said Ambadas Danve, Leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council who owes allegiance to the Thackeray group.

“This is injustice,” he told PTI.

Earlier ,The Election Commission had decided that the two factions of the Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde, would not be allowed to use the party name and symbol for the ongoing Andheri East by-poll and till the EC passes a final order on the dispute between them.

In an interim order, the EC said both the groups would be known by different names of their choosing and would be allotted alternate symbols from the list of free symbols notified by the EC for the current by-polls. The two sides were asked to submit the alternate names and symbols to the EC by 1 pm on October 10.

Reacting To EC move , Aaditya Thackeray tweeted

ECI froze our election symbol. They asked us to give symbols, Uddhav Thackeray gave three symbols, ‘trishul’, ‘mashaal’ & ‘rising sun’ to ECI. ECI will decide & allot the symbol now, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Arvind Sawant on party symbol told ANI
