The bitter campaigning of the Lok Sabha Polls 2019 have ended. Now in the last phase i.e. the seventh phase as many as 59 Lok Seats are up for grabs.
Over 10.1 crore voters will decide the fate of 918 candidates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They will cast their ballot at over 1.12 lakh polling stations.
Polling will take place on remaining eight constituencies of Bihar, three of Jharkhand, eight of Madhya Pradesh, 13 of Uttar Pradesh ( includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi) , all the four of Himachal Pradesh, 13 of Punjab and the lone seat of Chandigarh.
The most keenly watched polls will be in West Bengal . An electorate of 1,49,63,064 will decide the fate of 111 candidates in these nine seats — Kolkata North and Kolkata South, Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jadavpur, Diamond Harbour, Jaynagar (SC) and Mathurapur (SC).
Sitting MP Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and considered the number two in the party, is seeking re-election from the Diamond Harbour seat, where he is pitted against BJP’s Nilanjan Roy.
The Election Commission had curtailed the campaigning in West Bengal due to violence during BJP president Amit Shah’s road show and later on the desecration of the bust of Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar leading to bitter exchanges between the BJP and the TMC. Both holding each other responsible for the act.
There has been shortage in the bitter exchange of words between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. PM Modi Called her Speedbreaker Didi , Mamata replied by terming him as Expiry PM.
All eyes will be now on the Exit Polls scheduled on May 19 and the results on May 23.
