The bitter war of words between the TMC and the BJP continues unabated . West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjeelaunched a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, asking if he were a god that no one can protest against him.

Ms Banerjee said this after supporters of the BJP and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) fought pitched battles on the streets of Kolkata during a roadshow by  Shah.

A college named after Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, a key figure in the Bengal renaissance, was ransacked and a bust of the 19th century social reformer shattered allegedly by BJP workers during the clashes.

“What does Amit Shah think of himself? Is he above everything? Is he God that no one can protest against him?” Ms Banerjee told reporters after visiting the Vidyasagar College in north Kolkata.

Banerjee also slammed Shah for his Kangal Bangla remark. It may be recalled that Shah reportedly stated that “Mamata Banerjee has turned Sonar (golden) Bangla into Kangal (beggar) Bangla. She is only interested in protecting infiltrators to secure her vote bank. But her vote bank won’t be able to save her from imminent defeat,” he asserted.

Reacting to Shah’s jibe , Mamata said “He (Amit Shah) is a fat-head. Half-literate. All they know is how to start a riot… I’m willing to lay down my life, but there will no riot under my watch.”

Banerjee accused Prime Minister and his party of using abusive languages in speeches.

“They are constantly saying we are tolabaj, dacoits, chor, Is this a Prime Minister’s language? Today one of his people said Mamata has made Bengal a beggar. Does he know the meaning of the word kangal? How dare he? Not a single person should vote for this party,” Banerjee added.

The last nine seats that are yet to vote in Bengal will have polling on May 19. TMC is battling hard to retain all the 9 seats it won in 2014 while BJP is hoping to make an impact.
