#India Elections 2019 : 51 Lok Sabha Seats Up For Grabs In The Crucial Fifth Phase, BJP Aiming To Retain Most Seats

Nearly 700 candidates are contesting for the 51 seats spread across seven states in phase 5 of Lok Sabha elections 2019 today. Two more phases  now remain  that is  on  May 12 and May 19. The results will be out on #May 23.

In Uttar Pradesh – the state that sends the largest numbers of members to Lok Sabha, polling will be held in 14 seats. Twelve seats in Rajasthan, seven seats each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand and two seats in Jammu and Kashmir will also go to polls .

The fate of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, and six union ministers- Rajnath Singh , Jayant Sinha, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore are some of the prominent candidates in the .

According to News 18 report, The stakes are high for the ruling BJP and its allies as it had swept 40 of these seats in 2014, leaving just two for the Congress and the rest for other opposition parties such as the Trinamool Congress (seven).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to people to turnout in record numbers to cast their votes for the 51 seats that are voting today. “A vote is the most effective way to enrich our democracy and contribute to India’s better future,” PM tweeted early this morning.

Till 12 pm The voter turn out was : West Bengal: 33.57%, Uttar Pradesh: 22.96%, Bihar, 20.74%, J&K: 6.09%, Madhya Pradesh: 29.71%, Rajasthan: 29.39%, Jharkhand: 29.49%
