As BJP and Congress hit out at each other in a bitter campaign in the on- going 2019 Lok Sabha Polls, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman  in  Kerala for campaigning visited injured Shashi Tharoor at the hospital .

Tharoor is  the Congress candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency

Tharoor later tweeted the picture and wrote , saying he was touched by the minister’s gesture in the midst of hectic election campaigning. “Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics — great to see her practice it by example!,” he added.

Tharoor had sustained head injuries while on a temple visit and required stitches and was soon admitted to the Trivandrum Medical College hospital.

Sitharaman was also in Kerala at the time, participating in a roadshow with Kummanam Rajasekharan, the BJP candidate fighting against Tharoor from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat.

The Thiruvananthapuram seat  this time is  seeing a triangular contest between the Congress, BJP and the LDF.

Tharoor also tweeted to say that his LDF rival C Divakaran called in the morning to express concern about his well-being.

Very gracious of my LDF rival C.Divakaran to call this morning to express concern about my well-being. Said he had spoken to the Hospital Superintendent to assure himself I would be ok. “Don’t be demoralised”, he added. I’m not: I’m more determined than ever to see this through!
