Lok Sabha Elections 2019 : Has BJP’s Advertisement Blitz Given It The Edge Over Congress ?

The Lok Sabha Polls of 2019 gets underway on April 11, 2019. And before the first vote is cast , it seems the BJP has taken a edge as far as the perception level in concerned over the Congress. This is an era of 24X7 news channels and age of social media and it becomes pertinent to reach out to the people as soon as possible.

Even before the Election Commission of India announced the poll schedule and code of conduct coming into force, BJP’s advertisement blitz in newspapers with full page advertisements highlighting the government’s achievements ministry wise with the slogan ‘Namumkin ab mumkin hai’ ((impossible is possible now) and the other “Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai” in various regional languages  too  has struck the chord with public .  If this is not all there are  hashtags on social media for example on BJP party’s Twitter handle – #PhirEkBaarModiSarkar.  And the  world trend on Twitter -#MainBhiChowkidar.

In 2014, with the  effective slogan Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar , Narendra Modi rode to power and for the first time since 1984 . i.e in 30 years one had a government at the Centre with such a gigantic majority. And going by the looks of its as far as publicity is concerned BJP might repeat the same in 2019 given the early kick- start to their publicity campaigns

In sharp contrast ,  the grand old party Congress is  struggling  . It has as of now  yet to come out with any advertisement or slogan that it hopes to use to oust the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi .  Even the AAP of Arvind Kejriwal have managed to come out with full page advertisements highlighting its achievements but Congress is  surprisingly lagging behind.

Having been reduced to its lowest ever margin of 44 seats in 2014, Lok Sabha polls, Congress needs to quickly get its act together and reach out to the people and indicate that it can provide the alternative .

Mere oust Modi campaign or rhetoric will not possibly work. Congress at the moment  it seems  is in the Test match playing mood. It needs to get into the T20 mood to make an impact. It is time to wake up before it is simply too late.
