In the much awaited CAG report on Rafale deal that has seen a slug- fest between the Congress and the BJP,   Comptroller and Auditor General has  reportedly observed that the Rafale deal negotiated by the NDA government was cheaper than the UPA offer.

The NDA deal was 2.86 per cent cheaper than the one negotiated by the UPA government, according to a CAG report tabled in Parliament . And not 9 per cent cheaper as claimed by the Modi government.

It further says , says compared to the 126 aircraft deal, India managed to save 17.08% money for the India Specific Enhancements in the 36 Rafale contract.

The delivery schedule of the first 18 Rafale aircraft is better than the one proposed in the 126 aircraft deal, by five months.

The opposition has also levied charges about the role of CAG Rajiv Mehrishi who was the finance secretary when the Modi government signed the Rafale deal.

Mehrishi, who was previously secretary (economic affairs) in the defence ministry became the finance secretary during the time when the Rafale deal was inked and the opposition says there is therefore a conflict of interest

The Congress has already raised doubts on the conduct of CAG Rajiv Mehrishi and has levelled charges of conflict of interest against him.
