Citizenship (Amendment),Triple Talaq Bills Have To Clear Lok Sabha Again, As Rajya Sabha Adjouned Sine Die

The two major bills that had hogged the limelight – The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, and the Triple Talaq Bill, 2018 have lapsed. Having passed  in the Lok Sabha , the two bills were awaiting nod from the Upper house. But the Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die.

According to the Rajya Sabha Legislative Procedure, a bill pending in the Upper House which has not been passed by Lok Sabha does not lapse on the dissolution of the Lower House. But a bill which is passed by Lok Sabha and is pending in Rajya Sabha lapses on the dissolution of Lok Sabha.

With the Lok Sabha Elections of 2019 due soon, these two bills will have to clear the newly elected Lok Sabha

The government has had to face stiff resistance not only from the opposition but BJp was not able to convince even its own allies to come one board

BJP’s ally in Maharashtra Shiva Sena backed Congress demand for JPC on Rafale Deal. Its another ally JD(U) in Bihar stated it would voted against the Triple Talaq bill.

Assam and other states of the North-East have been roiled by protests over the citizenship Bill which seeks to relax Indian citizenship eligibility rules for immigrants belonging to six minority religions — Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians — from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan.
