In a rather strange  co-incidence the month-long Winter Session of Parliament,  is set to commence from December 11, the day results of the Assembly elections in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram are to be announced . Hence  the session could be stormy one which way the verdict goes.  Both the BJP and Congress would be looking at the results with keenness and as it will surely indicate which way the 2019 wind is blowing.

This would be  also be the last full-fledged Parliament session of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government before the next Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) recommended convening of the Winter Session from December 11 to January 8, official sources said.

The first day could be adjourned for the day after both houses pay respects to late former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar who passed away recently.

According to media reports, as reported by PTI, When contacted Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel confirmed the session would held from December 11 to January 8 and added it would have 20 working days. “We seek support and cooperation of all parties for the smooth functioning of Parliament during the session,” he said.

The government would push for the passage of the Triple Talaq bill pending in the Rajya Sabha. It had promulgated an ordinance to make the practice of instant triple talaq a penal offence. The government also wants the Indian Medical Council amendment ordinance and the companies amendment ordinance to be passed as bills in this session. Ordinance on the contentious Ram Mandir  is likely to figure as well.

The government will have tough time as the opposition is set to corner them on Rafale deal, the CBI in- fighting, the friction with the RBI among others.
