Upset with NCP supremo’s Sharad Pawar’s backing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Rafale deal, and despite Pawar’s subsequent clarification it was not enough  for former NCP leader Tariq Anwar as he  re-joined the Congress after a meeting with party president Rahul Gandhi.  Anwar resigned from the Lok Sabha and his party in September. It is after 19 years that Anwar is back in the Congress fold.

It may be re= called that Tariq Anwar along Sharad Pawar and former Lok Sabha speaker the late P A Sangma left the Congress party in 1999 , by raising their voices against Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origins. The trio then formed the party Nationalist Congress party ( NCP ).

But co-incidentally despite leaving the Congress due to Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origins, Sharad Pawar was a key ally of the  UPA and UPA – 2 regimes that was lead by Prime Minister  Dr Manmohan Singh . And in Maharashtra  the Congress –  NCP alliance ruled the state for 15 years.
