After winning the Euro 2016 for Portugal Cristiano Ronaldo had broken the national team jinx of not winning a major title in his career. The Euro 2016 triumph raised the expectations from him to deliver at Russia. The venue for the 21st FIFA World Cup 2018. It was a trophy he desperately wanted in his chequered career,

And to realise that dream he started off well for his country netting 4 goals in the process. But his dream run ended in the round of 16 as Portugal crashed out losing to brilliance of Uruguay thanks to two fine goals by Edinson Cavani . Cristiano Ronaldo had failed yet again. The World Cup dream over. Ironically on the same day Argentina had crashed out losing to 3-4 to France . Ending the World Cup hopes of Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo it seems has no regrets over the national team’s debacle in Russia 2018.  Instead the 33 – year-old post Russia is back in the news for what he does best – fuelling speculations of his desire to leave Spanish giants Real Madrid to greener pastures in Italy. And mum on his national team commitments.

There is no clarity whether he  will he be part of the team that plays the next edition in Qatar 2022 when he turns 37 by then?. Club over country seems to be top priority for Ronaldo.

So why then create this hype for the World Cup ? making it as though winning the Cup was mere formality by just being there.

This is the reason why Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus and the millions dollars salary does not bring much cheer or excitement.

So after rumours for a while, it has been confirmed that the superstar is indeed leaving Real Madrid for Juventus. Ronaldo has had fantastic 9 year career at Real Madrid and was their leading goal scorer with as many as 451 goals in all competitions and won two La Liga titles and our champions league titles.

He now moves to Italian club Juventus on four year contract at a whopping 100 million euros ( $ 117.34 million) . In 2009 Cristiano Ronaldo left English club Manchester United for Real Madrid at a then record prize tag of 80 million pounds ($106 million dollars)

Cristiano Ronaldo ,  Argentine Lionel Messi  have always carried the hype around them but have failed when it mattered most. Given the disgust among their fans  from their respective countries , one is sure that Ronaldo’s move to Juventus in a quest for personal glory instead of national glory will interest them anymore.
