Rajnath Singh to Visit Poll Bound Meghalaya on December 7, Meet Party Workers

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit poll-bound Meghalaya on December 7 to meet booth-level BJP workers, party officials said. Singh will also inaugurate a party office in the state.

“The Union home minister will address about 3,000 party workers at the booth-level ‘karyakarta sammelan’ covering assembly constituencies of East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and Shillong City,” BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh told news agency PTI.

The state BJP, which is gearing up to contest in all 60 seats in the state, is also preparing the visit of its national president Amit Shah and other top party functionaries this year, Lyngdoh said.

Meanwhile , According to media reports Congress heavyweight and former Meghalaya Chief Minister, DD Lapang has decided not to contest assembly polls scheduled for early next year.

Lapang, who is the President of the Pradesh Congress has declared he will not contest election from Nongpoh assembly constituency. However, he said he will continue to serve the people of the constituency.

Lapang held the office of Chief Minister for the longest time, become MLA in 1972 as an independent candidate.

Lapang said, “I have decided not to contest the elections but I will continue to serve people in Nongpoh constituency and the people of Ri Bhoi as long as blood in my veins continues to circulate.”
