Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For his Role In 1984 Anti- Sikh Riots, Sajjan Kumar Quits Congress

A day after Delhi High Court had sentenced Congress leader Sajjan Kaumar, 73,  to life sentence for his role in the 1984 anti-sikh riots in the capital after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, Kumar has now quit the party.

As per the HC order Kumar has to surrender by December 31. According to media reports, Kumar’s lawyers are likely to challenge the verdict before December 31 in the Supreme Court.

He had according to media reports has written to party president Rahul Gandhi submitting his resignation from the primary membership of the party.

Sajjan wrote : “I tender my resignation with immediate effect from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress in the wake of the judgement of the hon’be high court of Delhi against me.”
