India Win First Test Against Australia In Adelaide By 31 Runs, Take 1-0 Series Lead

India have taken a 1-0 lead in the four match Test series against Australia. Team India beat Australia by 31 on the fifth day at the Adelaide Oval. Australia battled hard but that not enough.

Chasing 323 fro a win, Australia could manage 291 . India rode on heroics of Cheteshwar Pujara . The right- hander cored runs when it mattered 123 in the first 71 in the second. In 2003, legendary Rahul Dravid powered India’s win with a majestic  233 in the first innings and unbeaten 72 in the second.   Deputy Ajinkya Rahane also contributed a crucial 70 in the second innings.

The most heartening thing was the performance of bowlers – India’s four bowlers – Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashiwn bowled superbly to take 20 wickets .

A delighted skipper Virat Kohli , said every win is special and we need to keep this momentum in the series. Every Test win is special according to him. Virat during the post match press conference admitted that the team did not bat smartly in the first innings did better in the second. He lauded the efforts of Pujara and Rahane and the splendid efoort of the bowlers.

 

Nathan Lyon finished unbeaten on a good innings of 38. The Oz lower order frustrated the Indians quite a bit as the last three wickets put on 104 runs, while keeping the Indian bowlers at bay for as many as 34.5 overs.

The second Test will begin in Perth from December 14.
