BCCI Announces Squad For Asia Cup 2018, Virat Kohli Rested, Rohit Sharma Named Skipper

The BCCI have announced the Indian team for the Asia Cup in The UAE from September 15- 28. Keeping mind the heavy workload, the selectors have rested skipper Virat Kohli for the event.

In Kohli’s absence , Mumbai’s stylish right- hander Rohit Sharma will captain the side . Shikhar Dhawan has been named as the vice- captain.

India clash with Pakistan  in the tournament too . The first after cricketer- turned politician Imran Khan  became Pakistan’s Prime Minister.  So the face- off will be all the more riveting .

 

The MSK Prasad-led selection committee have recalled Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu and Manish Pandey to the One-Day International setup, while left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is the only new face in the 16-man squad that will travel to the United Arab Emirates for the six-team 50-over tournament, getting underway from September 15.

Notable exclusions from the ODI squad that played in England include Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav, Siddarth Kaul. Dinesh Karthik  will be the back- up wicket- keeper as Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be behind the stumps.  Ajinkya Rahane’s ODI career appears to be trouble as he misses out of the Asia Cup team again.

The squad : Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan (vc), KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed.
