Scott Morrison Ousts Malcom Turnbull To Become Australia’s New Prime Minister

Politics in Australia slipped into chaos as in dramatic development , Scott Morrison is set to become Australia’s sixth prime minister . He will replace the incumbent Malcolm Turnbull . Morrison won the vote in the contest for the liberal party.

Morrison, 50, who has been serving as the country’s treasurer, defeated former home affairs minister Peter Dutton by 45 votes to 40 at the closed door leadership vote.

Morrison will lead the conservative party, which is known as the Liberal Party, in a general election expected in the coming months.

Since 2007, no Australia prime minister has faced two consecutive elections.

Turnbull is the fourth Australian PM in a decade to be ousted internally.

“It has been such a privilege to be the leader of this great nation. I love Australia. I love Australians,” he said .

According to various media reports of a coup within the party , Morrison entered the race after Turnbull lost key backers. After a majority of MPs called for a leadership “spill”, Turnbull agreed to step down.
