The Congress party has released its first list of 218 candidates for the 12 May Karnataka Assembly elections, which includes the names of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state party chief G Parameshwara.

Siddaramaiah will contest from the Chamundeshwari Assembly seat and Parameshwara will be in the fray from the Korategere Assembly constituency.

The list also includes the names of some state ministers as party candidates for the polls. The results of the election will be out on 15 May.

According to various media reports, the ticket distribution has apparently not gone down well among various aspirants and they took to violence . The party did not apply the “one-family, one-ticket” formula for the Karnataka polls which it followed in the Punjab polls held last year.

Protests have erupted in many constituencies like Hangal, Mayakonda, Jagalur, Tiptur, Kunigal, Kolar, Kollegal, Belur, Badami, Kittur as sitting MLAs and strong aspirants vented their ire on being denied a ticket.

The Congress workers also staged protests against their own party at several places in the state. At Azad Park of Chikamagalur, Gayathri Shantegowda’s supporters protested and set tyres on fire. Similarly, supporters of MLA DB Inamdar protested in Belagavi. They blocked road and burnt tyres.
