A Fierce gun-battle between militants and CRPF was reported from Karan Nagar area of Srinagar, which also hosts the CRPF camp, CNN-News18 reported. According to the report, the militants were cornered during a search operation by the CRPF, which began after the paramilitary force foiled an attack on its camp in Srinagar.

According to reports, two militants, carrying bags and armed with AK 47s rifles, were seen approaching the CRPF camp in Srinagar. However, they were fired at by sentries after which they fled the spot, the report added.

The camp is located near the SMHS hospital. CRPF spokesman Rajesh Yadav said that an alert sentry had earlier noticed suspicious movement of the militants.

Various media reports said that the sentry averted a possible militant attack by firing at approaching militants forcing them to flee.

Two militants carrying bags and AK-47 rifles were seen by the sentry approaching the camp of the 23 battalion of CRPF in Karan Nagar area around 4.30 am, they said.

Later, searches were launched around the camp periphery.

Meanwhile, the operation at Sunjuwan Military Station entered Day 3 with the army launching a “clearing” operation on Sunday night. So far, five army personnel and one civilian have lost their lives. Around 12 people including personnel and civilians have been injured in the attack, ANI reported.
